Artist's statement
My paintings, drawings and prints are principally concerned with natural forms and the environment and more particularly my surroundings in relation to myself, wherever I am. I endeavour to absorb the mood of a situation and reflect this within my work through a process of distillation. A major element in my work is my use of colour. A few years ago, I decided to investigate other areas of art, seeking to diversify my work, and I became involved in researching 'the box' and its meaning to me. Although working 3 dimensionally I found many parallels with my painting from the layering of materials through to the title of the finished piece. My work at present continues to be concerned with painting while I maintain an interest in the conceptual aspect of art. Janet Patterson studied at the Slade School of Fine Art; she has travelled widely and has lectured for many years at colleges of art in the UK and abroad. She exhibits internationally and is represented in private and public collections including Texaco, AstraZeneca, National Westminster Bank etc |
